V0088 - Who Wants To Live Forever? Edition

So, you hate your head being blown up in an AWESOME "Scanners" reference? FINE. No more of that.

Head explosion as a result of infection overdose is now a thing of the past, and I even put a thing in to keep you from being able to starve to death, too. Head explosions is probably th most complained about thing, so hopefully this makes a lot of you happy! ^_^

Sorry this update took so long - I've been sick, depressions been playing up, I got a 10,000 word essay I'm working on, and I managed to wrack my knee somehow, which is making it pretty uncomfortable to sit at the computer for long.

Some awesome fan work up there of a SnapJack by QR. This is for sure going to end up in the game, but Sophie there is a special snapjack, so I want to write a character just for her, rather than just use it for one of the ones that's already in there. Sophie is utterly terrifying. I like her a lot.

Okay, downloads! Remember as always, you must start a new game - using old saves will mess things up. Okay? okay.

New bits -

* No more head exploding! - there's a generic infection overdose ending that could use some expansion, and two unique enemy ones, one for the Little Women and one for the Chavs. You'll need to have lost combats to them in order to get their ends when your infection maxes out, within the last few days in the case of the chavs. I got a couple more endings half written, more girls will have them as time goes by, and areas like the library will have their own. If there's an enemy you'd particularly like to see get an ending, let me know.

* No more starving! - If you run out of food now, a mutant will show up and take care of that. It'll give you a infection boost though. Two variations so far, one up to day 18 or so, another one after that.

* More Darlene! - The girl you meet in the library, written by the Pie Wife, is back and expanded. You can meet her around town once you've had the initial library encounter, and she could be of use to characters with lower INT score after the pharmacy is closed.

* New enemies! - A saucy waitress you can meet down by the sea front, written by NC, and a new goo girl in the sewers, written by me. The new goo girl has no defeat scene yet, sorry guys. I'll get that in soon.

* One bit of treasure int he library - a different armour item, one that doesn't slow you down. Library still needs more goodies in it, but it's a start!

* Lots of minor bug fixes in the library and sewers, also fixed the manticora not appearing - thanks TDM!

Not Fixed -

Haven't cleared my typo fix list, sorry.

Okay, so, yeah. Adding the different ends meant messing with a bit of the code I haven't touched since I started this project, so it might mess things up. Let me know all the bugs here! Major things I'll be working on this week are - Stretchy Girl (a commision, so NEEDS to get done!) and more sewer maze/goo girl stuff (likewise) and hopefully a few more endings, and adding scenes for the girls who are missing them.

We're still 30 British Pounds short of the rent. If you enjoy playing the game, and can afford to throw us some change, please do! In good news, the Pie Wife now has a job! In bad news, she does not start for three weeks. So things will be okay, but we're relying on freelancing and game support to get us through til then. Thanks for all the support you've shown so far, you guys are all the awesomest.

Anyone have any issues with the inventory screen form the last build? It still keeps glitching out for me, but I've had no complaints about it.

I found a bug in the library, it doesn't recognize when the character takes the item in the library - I can take it 5 times in a row, and it still lets me take it.

Also noticed the biolumiense (sp?) girl (assuming she's the new one) created a problem when I lost by lust. My lust stayed higher than my lust allowable, meaning as long as I was in the sewers, any encounter meant losing by lust - but my infection rate didn't go up...

I quite like the npc progressio and I'd find that to be a wonderful idea if done for all NPCs (yes, I know, tall order as it requires a lot of work). Still, with how the progress goes I'd have to stress an importance of having an ability to halt/revert progression of some girl's mutations. For example, I find unmutated girl in the pic far more good looking than the later stages.

Anon 1 - Thanks, I'll get those fixed!

Anon 2 - More and more specific ending will be added as we go, might need to re-jig the way they're chosen as more are added. I'll defiently have the options of slowing/curing the mutations for some specific npcs, such as Selena, but I'm not sure about it being a general option. The slow inevitible mutation of everything is kind of the games theme. But we'll see!

Lieutenant Commander Obvious - I liked the exploding heads, man. :( They amused me.

Personally, I didn't care much for the exploding heads, but it was kind of funny, like *too much presuure caused the explosion* or something.

And the saucy waitress is HOT!

Anonymous said...

Well shoot! I still starved to death!

I really, really like. Saucy Waitress is amazingly well written - outdid yourself there; one of the hottest scenes in the game easily. Darlene is the other contender - it's very interesting to see another form of the infection, and I really like how her relationship with the main character is NOT "one line of get dunked, never mention previous meeting again" - would be nice if some of the other common enemies had at least some degree of permanence.

One thing I would like to see, echoing some comments already... I get that mutation in general is a major theme, but it would be really nice to have some way to do anything from keeping an enemy type around (Japanese Girl just gets hotter as she mutates - but Bossy Redhead disappears forever ~day 20? WHY?), or possibly having some way of... curing or saving individual enemies? The bossy redhead, for example, seems relatively sane right up until she 100% disappears, with no signs of mutation outside of the general lust thing.

Considering Darlene's interesting infection strain and Selene's smarts, maybe it'd be doable to save, like, one individual girl that the player really likes? Serious effort involved, but to use my earlier example, being able to cure or at least keep infection in stasis for one girl would be cool.

Even if it has to be something as minor as being able to keep one "safe" girl around for their sex scene on demand, or (preferably) something where you can actually interact with them at all, maybe even get some sort of bonus for having someone watching your back or at least give you something (...someone, heh) to do at night. Latter would be more work needless to say, but it ties back into my permanence thing; it never feels like the player makes any impact on the world, outside of the excellently-penned Darlene and (unfinished) Selena arcs.

On the note of endings ENDING FOR BOSSY REDHEAD PLEASE. Japanese girl too. Scorpion girls are hot, and I'm intrigued by how the Redhead seems to be immune to mutation right up until she disappears entirely - is it possible she has an aberrant strain, similar in theory to Darlene's albeit obviously nowhere near the same effect? Can she retain human form permanently, simply gaining powers of some sort? Does she simply suffer from the infection but has a natural immunity to the mutations that caused her just get eaten/weeded out by the mutating monster girls? Any of those could lead to an interesting character... or just chronicle her evolution into Jean Grey or some bullshit. Whatever. I'm just throwing ideas out.

anon 4 - haha, how did you manage to starve? I thought I'd fully taken that code out. XD

anon 5 - Glad you like the waitress and Darlene, but I didn't write either of them! Waitress is by NC, and Darlene is by the PieWife. That's a real compliment to the writers though! :D

Bossy Redhead I just never properly decided what to do with, as far as mutation goes. I justw anted to write an enemy inspired by Karen Gillan. Once I come up with a good progression, or if someone else has an idea for her, it'll go in. someone wanter her to become a fox-girl, which could be fun, but I'm kinda wanting to move away from traditional monstergirls into more unusual and unique stuff. I'll see if I can think up a good ending for her too. :)

In game-logic terms though, the infection mutates some girls more obvious than others - some, like the chavs stay physically unchanged, and some keep their resoning, though lose their physical humanity. And some both mutate and go nuts!

Some of the weaker girls probably do get out competed by the larger mutants - that's why the more monsterous ones get more monstery, and the smaller/weaker ones start running in packs.

There's at least one girl who's immune - a journalist who's partly written but not encounterable in the game yet. My own personal theory is also that at least at first, not all the girls are infected, and are just kind of experiencing a placebo effect/being caught up in the excitment sort of thing.

The way I have the game set up, it might be tricky, but I'll have a look into it. There'll certainly be possibilities to save named characters, "generic" npcs, I'm not sure yet.

Saying your last comment, SeldomPie, I have to say - don't ignore traditional monstergirls! While I understand need of originality and applaud your ambitions (I mean, naga is almost in every monstergirl title, making the creature lose a bit of it's flair) those monstergirls are now traditional for a reason, with a great many fans in some cases. So if bossy redhead fits typical (japanese? anime?) fox-girl. by all means - make her such!

Other things I'd like to point out - I like that story wise infection won't completely overtake everyone but instead of some people being just lead by placebo effect, I'd make the fluff follow what people know of regular diseases. For example, immediatelly upon being infected subject may develop a fever and go either horny or into short (several hours long) coma - after which she wakes up/continues as a nymphomaniac or - in rare cases - actually her body fights off and gets resistant to the infection strain. Maybe it's just me but it seems tad bit more believable.

And don't worry about people not giving enough love to exploding heads - while it also seemed like rather lacking ending to me, I do appreciate Scanners reference - somewhat cheesy, in some parts not the best acted out but still interesting movie most people don't know anymore/nowadays.

As for curing/halting infection - I am also aware that this is the game's theme but no one said that infection as a story background has to be stopped too. Hell, I am all for infection as a perpetual-horniness-maker. It's just some characters seem far more attractive as either monstergirls which aren't yet greatly mutated or infected girls who aren't visibly mutated - and I'd also like a mechanism allowing one to manage ratio/availabilty of those stages.

Also, pardon other typos, it is very late here. No disrespect was also meant by strangely constructed sentences.

Anon5 here again.

I have save files in battle with each of the enemy types I like best (seven files? which says something about this game's writing and art in general - Darlene and waitress might be my favorite writing but redhead/japanese girl are hotter than sin, girl next door is cute as hell...) so it's not necessarily critical to be able to have a generic fuck buddy; I just think it'd be cool - albeit, yeah, a shitload of work, so I'm probably being a right twat for even suggesting this - to have some form of non-battle interaction with some of the currently-generic girls. Not really sure if it'd even be reasonably feasible - much less in your grand plan - to have stuff like actual arcs for each of them or alternate endings if you "cure" a Bossy Redhead vs the generic Bossy Redhead "bad" ending, but might be cool for at least some of the unique NPCs...

...You know, actually, that got me thinking; will Darlene have an ending? Good or bad or either; it just seems really interesting that she can outright PUSH BACK the infection, even curing males of it until they re-contract it. I wonder what effect she would have on the infected girls, if any? Could she in theory lead to an ending where she is used to synthesize an island-wide cure? I doubt the soldiers on day 40 would be willing to allow an infected girl on the boats for obvious reasons, but... certainly a possible arc, trying to cure the island before the army carpet bombs the place. Or hell, just an ending where you stay with Darlene permanently on the island. TRU WUV! ...On a nightmarish hell island full of apocalyptic monstrosities. Yeah. Not quite as romantic as it could be.

On the Bossy Redhead/foxgirl thing; it's probably a bit presumptuous of me to even request this, but please don't give her anything extra weird, like the urethral spikes of the library girls or horrifying mutations (mushmouth, etc). I really like the air of... almost normality she has; given her bossy nature and how lucid she stays right up until disappearance, it's really not hard to imagine her as even an uninfected who was already a nympho, just working the island's sex craze for all it's worth until she has a run-in with an actual monster girl or something. I love foxgirls so I certainly wouldn't complain if she ended up as one, but other stuff works too, just... please minimize the body horror type of stuff, yeah?

I did NOT starve - It helps when you are playing the right version! I did however crash when my infection level gets to high. Happened multiple times now

SeldomPie said...

You want the Bossy Redhead to have tentacles for eyes and a dick-nose you say? Sure thing!

I kid. :P I'll try to keep her on the "cute" side of things. I'll have to ask Piewife about her plans for Darlene, I agree though, there's lots of possibilities with her. Also agree that more needs to be done with the regular girls - they should at least recognise you when they meet you for a second time.

Glad you're enjoying the game!

most recent anon - could you give me a copy/past or screen cap of th message you get when it crashes? Trying to fix this now.

Anon5 again. I really should get an actual name eventually!

Oh, I adore this game; definitely beats out CoC for me already, both due to the excellent art and the more grounded sensibilities it has, along with generally much better written sex scenes. ...Though that Marae (the tree goddess or whatever?) scene was pretty ohgodyes, so point for CoC there.

I'm not as much of a fan of the shittingdicknipple side of things in general, admittedly, but I feel like MMM does a really good job of letting players pick how much of that they want to deal with - if you JUST want to see sex scenes that's quite easy, and if you keep up your training it's easy to avoid ever having to see any of the "weirder" sex scenes. And it does a LOT for the atmosphere of the game to have these horrifying monstrosities running around; I actually really like it, even if I refuse to LOSE to any of them, 'cuz it does an amazing job of making you feel like the infection really is a mounting epidemic that's just getting more and more terrifying, making survival all the sweeter with each passing day, and the non-horrifying girls even more fun to run into.

On a side note: it might be kinda cute if the Scorpion Curl curls her tail around you during/after sex; her current sex scene is almost identical to the Japanese Girl's, if I recall correctly, other than mentioning that her tail is waving around a bit while she walks up to you. Prrrrrrrobably don't need to have her kill player or inject fifty gallons of venom into them, but generally she seems an interesting blend of dangerous but not lethal, if that makes sense? Japanese Girl tends to get the "do nothing" action fairly often so it never really feels like she's trying all that hard to tenderize you, and Scorpion Girl seems to have the stinger more for self-defense than to go around killing things - just seems like it might be a really cute thing to have her wrap the tail around the character without using the stinger or anything. ...Yeah I'm kind of a sucker for happy sex in case the whole really liking Darlene/Waitress thing didn't make that obvious.

...I kinda want to see a dick-nose now, though. Maybe not on redhead, but it sounds... oddly hilarious. I thought the Dowdy Nerd transformation was definitely interesting, on a side note. Not my thing personally, but a really cool "OH GOD WHY DIDN'T I KEEP IT IN MY PANTS" sort of moment for the main character that I found hilarious.

Normally, I save my comments for Fen's forum since they're easier to organize and post, but hey. This is relevant to what is being said here.

Possible mutations for the bossy redhead that are "cute" but not "stock":

-Animated hair that is under her control.
-Suction cups on her hands.
-Mouths/vaginas on her hands.
-Glans that produce lubrication/aphrodisiacs/sedatives on her hands.
-Extra arms.
-Longer fingers or more flexible hands.

Is there a list of where the items can be found? Can't remember where to search for dumbells and such.

Dr. Convex said...

Glad I read the comments before I added my suggestions for the bossy redhead.

I'll second The Dark Master... prehensile hair. Perhaps it gets more "flamelike" as time goes on. Not burning hot, but it emits both heat and light.

Anonymous said...

Since you added female to dickgirl, is there any chance that in the future you will add male to female transformations? Maybe start as gay guy, then trap, then full female.

Eleiryn said...

I really like the glans thing; her "gig" seems to be about control and arousal, making the player WANT it rather than necessarily just -taking- it, so it would make sense for her to have subtler mutations that nonetheless have a strong effect in tune with her making people come crawling to her in blind lust. Perhaps an aphrodasaic transmitted primarily via her fluids saliva/vaginal/sweat); I vaguely remember her doing more outright kissing than most other girl types in her lust attacks, so that could be extrapolated to saliva being (one of) her primary vectors.

Darlene already has CANDY BODY at range, so redhead could be differentiated more by a need for contact; the effect is nonexistent unless she manages to kiss/grind/generally rub up against the player, and the effect gets dramatically stronger each time. Maybe something like she starts off building 1 lust, then that amount doubles every time she hits you?

The idea of warm hair doesn't sound too bad either, though.

Eleiryn said...

Hmmmm... bit more thought on that. Perhaps her particular strain of the infection is less aggressively mutagenic; it CAN'T keep up with crap like Manticora, that giant walrus lady, etc. Instead, her strain ekes out the most possible resources from a finite starting point. Translation: Darlene makes everything around her horny to get as much as possible that way, Redhead evolves the ability to make a single target provide her with more. Might fit her personality, too: something like saliva builds lust faster, vaginal secretions dramatically amp it up and vastly increase the quantity of semen harvested.

Would be interesting to see her mutation evolve more through text than visually; sex scenes start as they are now then transition to stuff like MC ejaculating as soon as he enters (with her, of course, being very dom/"you deserve punishment for that" about it) and multiple ejaculations - negating refractory period - or ridiculously high volume of semen per load. I hesitate to say succubus-esque because THAT comes with a whole load of baggage that is entirely unnecessary, but the general idea of making up for her lesser "murdering" ability by receiving exponentially more resources from each subject. Some monster girls have to find companions or evolve dramatic mutations to keep up; she just makes ridiculously good use out of each she does find.

You should get the option to train when you return to your base in the evening, assuming you're found some training items.

Allo! Really nice to see a Brit game. I can't get out much, so I've spent most of my time online in the past 10 years. Most of the places I hang out don't have a lot of Brits, and even though I don't do voice I'm starting to think I'm losing my accent! heh.. Anyway, I don't play MMM too often because I'm not a horror fan, but gotta play it sometimes.

This is the first version I've played with the art, it's good stuff. It's got me wondering how come my poor theology student's lust doesn't rise every round when he's confronted with the Japanese girl. ;)

Speaking of lust, I do have a bug that might be worth mentioning. One day ended with my theology student's lust at 6/7. The next morning it was 7/7, and like a fool he went out there. He was quite all right! He didn't try to fight, he'd learned he was crap at it by that point, so whenever he had an encounter, he fled. A few days passed and his lust was 10/5, 10 out of a maximum of 5. He didn't have that many encounters to begin with, it was early in the game, but the problem is how could he flee with maximum lust?
